Toronto, Seattle & Philadelphia Propose a Blockbuster Trade
December 14, 2009
A proposed 3-way trade may land Roy Halladay in Philadelphia. Reports are out saying that the Phillies, Mariners and Blue Jays are working on a trade that would send Halladay to Philly and Cliff Lee to Seattle. It is not certain what the Blue Jays would receive in return.
Halladay was being looked at by several teams during last season prior to the trade deadline as Toronto knew they wouldn’t be able to afford resigning their ace. Now that he has made clear that he doesn’t want to be a part of the Toronto organization, he has mentioned that he would play in Philly for less than his market value.
Cliff Lee was an instrumental part of Philadelphia’s run to the World Series last season. Since being acquired by Philly in late July, Lee posted a 3.39 era in 12 regular season starts. His post-season record was even more remarkable as he went 4-0 with an amazing 1.56 era. He has stated that he would like to remain a Philly, but it seems as though Philadelphia feels his value in the open market is too high to hold on to him.
It remains to be seen how or when this trade will take place, but if it does it will make the Phillies the odds on favorites to repeat as the National League representatives in the World Series.
