Suns Look to Finish off Trailblazers in Game 6

April 29, 2010

The Portland Trailblazers will try to even their series to 3 games apiece as they host the Phoenix Suns Thursday night.

On paper, the Suns have dominated this series. They have averaged over 104 points per game to Portland’s 93. The determining factor to each game has been the Blazers ability to contain the high-powered Suns offense. They held Phoenix to 100 and 87 in their 2 wins, but allowed an average of 112 in their 3 losses. Portland is a notoriously tough place to play. The Trailblazers will need to feed of their crowd’s energy if they are to hold this dynamic Suns offense under 100. Brandon Roy’s return to play after having surgery just 2 weeks ago had sparked Portland to a win in game 4. However, they were hammered on Monday as the series went back to Phoenix. The key to game 6 will be the play of Portland’s “Bigs”. They will need to keep Phoenix out of the paint, and force them to take bad shots from the perimeter. This is easier said than done!. Amare Stoudemire leads the Phoenix attack with a 23.1 point per game average. He has been a dominant figure all season long for the Suns and is the most important factor in taking this team deep into the playoffs. Steve Nash has played at a high level despite the fact that he is getting up their in age. His 11 assists per contest leads the team, and his 16.5 points per game average is second to Stoudemire. If the Suns play to their capability, they should finish of the injured and under-manned Blazers tomorrow night regardless of the fact that the game is on the road.

Portland has an extremely bright future, and will be in the playoff hunt for years to come. However, not having their star center and number 1 draft pick from 3 years ago (Greg Odon) is hurting this teams chance to advance. They will need to have a perfect defensive game, and have everything click offensively for them to send this series to a game 7.
