Sunday Night Football Preview: Giants v. Eagles

December 13, 2009

The New York Giants face the Philadelphia Eagles is what should be another gritty NFC East battle. The G-Men finally broke through last week with a HUGE win against division leader Dallas. Prior to that victory, New York had lost 5 out of 6 and looked as though they were mailing in the season.

Now that they still have a legitimate chance of getting in the playoffs, the Giants can control their own destiny with wins in their last 4 games. Philadelphia has their own plans to get a post-season bid, but they will need to shown more consistency of both sides of the ball. They have had their share of troubles on the road this year that includes a loss to Oakland back in mid-October. The last time they played in Giants Stadium, the Eagles knocked of the defending Super Bowl Champ Giants in the playoffs. This will certainly be a focus point for New York.

Philly dominated the first meeting with the Giants this season. Donovan McNabb finished the game with 3 touchdown passes and no interceptions.as the Eagles cruised to a 40-17 win. It will be a much tougher game tonight, because of the rejuvenated Giants defense and bad weather. Heavy rains in the New York area will make it difficult for either team to maintain long drives.

Expect this game to be a battle. Do not anticipate anything less than a game winning field goal by the eventual winner in the final seconds. Handicapping football games is certainly a science and requires a tremendous understanding of point spreads and situations, but in a game like this, I recommend taking the points.
