Lakers and Celtics Go To Battle in Game 1 of NBA Finals
June 3, 2010
The Los Angeles Lakers host the Boston Celtics in a match-up of the 2 most storied franchises in NBA history. Boston has 17 World Championships to the Lakers 15, but both are looked upon as equals in the basketball world. This is a virtual rematch of the 2008 Finals in which the Celtics beat the Lakers for the 9th time in the NBA Finals. Boston had won the first 7 Finals match-ups in this heated rivalry, but the Lakers have split the last 4 due to the “Showtime” era.
The oddsmakers have set the Lakers as slightly less than 2 to 1 favorites in this series. Obviously with home court advantage they would be, but it seems as though it’s the Celtics that have momentum. A hard fought series against the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James showed that Boston was peaking at the right time. Many basketball predictions had the Cavaliers as heavy favorites in that series, but Rajon Rondo turned that on it’s head!
Rondo has been the sparkplug for this Celtics squad. Two years ago, many NBA experts said that he was the weak link for Boston. Regardless of their assumptions, the Celtics went on to beat Los Angeles with a 40+ point blowout in the final game. Now, Boston’s “Big Three” are older, but wiser. Rajon Rondo is no longer a weak link, but perhaps the best point guard in the league, and will need to be at his best in order to take down the Lakers dynasty.
Tune in Thursday night as the NBA Finals kick off from Staples Center at 9 pm EST. If this is anything like the past series between these 2 teams you won’t want to miss it!
