Iverson Calls It Quits after 13 Years in NBA
November 26, 2009
The 10 time NBA All-Star Allen Iverson has retired from the NBA after a leave of absence and only three games of participation this season. Following his leave for personal matters, the 6 foot shooting guard was waived from the Grizzlies after entering the season with a career average of 27.1 points that ranked 5th of all time. Prior to taking time off on November 7th, Iverson expressed his dissatisfaction as a bench player after signing a year long contract with Memphis. Unfortunately for this cross over master, his frustrations last season with the Pistons have not seemed to improve with his switch in organizations.
Interest in signing Iverson was recently displayed by the New York Knicks, however on November 20th president Donnie Walsh announced the offer would not be made. After declaring his passion for the game and desire to play, Iverson closed his retirement letter with appreciations and thanks to fans, coaches, the Memphis Grizzlies organization and several NBA icons including Michael Jordon and Magic Johnson.
