Heat One Win Away from Eastern Finals

May 11, 2011

The Boston Celtics are on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs. After all the criticism and skepticism regarding the alliance of 3 of the most talented players in the NBA, the Miami Heat find themselves 1 win away from getting to the Eastern Conference Championships. The “decision” by LeBron James brought about a ton of negative press, but more importantly it came with a ton of expectations.

Despite the slow start and the losing streaks along the way, the Heat finished the season as the 2 seed ahead of a late-fading Boston squad. That could very well end up being the difference maker in terms of getting to the Finals. The Chicago Bulls have their hands full in their second round match-up with Atlanta which could prove to be beneficial to Miami if they can wrap this series up on Wednesday.

Chris Bosh had many question marks regarding his performance during the regular season, but he’s come up big thus far in the post-season. He’s averaging over 16 points and almost 10 rebounds per game, but it’s been his defense that’s been the difference maker for the Heat. Kendrick Perkins isn’t around anymore for the Celtics, but Bosh has done a great job keeping Kevin Garnett well below his season average in points per game.

Dwayne Wade and LeBron James have figured out a way to play together, and are sharing the ball amazingly well. As of game 4, Wade and James have exactly the same amount of points, and are both averaging 5 assists per game. It took a while, but this team is clearly in sync. They still have some work ahead of them, but with the Lakers and Spurs out of the playoffs in the Western conference, they have a slightly easier road to get their first NBA title. Of course the winner of the Bulls/ Hawks series will have something to say about that, but the basketball handicappers in Vegas made the Heat the odds-on favorites to win the East prior to the start of the playoffs, and they are looking fairly good on that NBA prediction so far.

The elbow dislocation to Rajon Rondo has played a part in Boston’s struggles, but it’s obvious that Miami is playing their best ball of the year. Tune in Wednesday as the Heat try to finish off this series and get 1 step closer to their goal of winning the NBA Championship.
