GMAC Bowl Preview: C. Michigan vs. Troy
January 6, 2010
The GMAC Bowl may not be high up on everyone’s list of bowl games to watch, but it may very well be one of the best games this post-season. The Central Michigan Chippewas face the Troy Trojans in a battle of non-BCS conference champions.
C. Michigan has been at the top of the Mid-American Conference for several years now with their dynamic offense. Star quarterback Dan LeFevour has led this team once again to double-digit wins and a bowl game. He may be the least known superstar in college football. His numbers are outrageous. This season alone, he has passed for over 3000 yards and 27 touchdowns, while rushing for another 700 with 14 touchdowns. Not even the great Tim Tebow can match those stats. However, he will be tested Wednesday night against a Troy defense that has given many elite quarterbacks troubles this season.
The TroyTrojans have once again navigated a weak Sun Belt Conference with relative ease, going 8-0 in league play. It’s not like they should struggle anyway as the Sun Belt may be the lowest ranked conference in division 1 football. Regardless of that fact, Troy has managed once again to receive a bowl bid. Three of the four non-conference opponents they faced this season have disposed of them with ease, and I don’t see that trend stopping against a loaded Chippewas team. Expect a ton of points as C. Michigan makes quick work of a under-manned Trojan defensive front.
There may be a ton of hype for the National Championship game on Thursday, but if you truly like college football, you won’t want to miss the GMAC Bowl. Tune in Wednesday at 4 PM on ESPN as the Chippewas and Trojans display some fireworks of their own.
