Denver and Phoenix Battle for the 3 Seed in the West
April 13, 2010
The Western Conference version of musical chairs continues Tuesday as the Phoenix Suns host the Denver Nuggets in a game that is critical for both teams. As of 11pm EST, the Nuggets are leading Memphis by 17 in their next to last game> If they hold on and win they will have a half game advantage over Phoenix for the 3rd seed in the Western conference.
The Suns may be the hottest team going, but they have a brutally tough final 2 games to end the season. They will not only need to beat Denver at home, but they will need to take down the Utah Jazz on the road. The Jazz are the third party involved in the 3 way tie for the 3rd spot in the tightly contested West. Utah has a phenomenal record at home as they have lost just 8 games on their court. It looks as though they have the best chance to get the 3 seed based on their final schedule. They take on a horrible Golden St squad on the road, and then have the luxury of playing Phoenix at their house.
Phoenix has been on fire since the All Star break going 21-6, and has pulled into a tie for the 3rd spot. Amare Stoudemire has taken his game to a new level this season. He and point guard Steve Nash have carried this team through the second half of the season, and now look to make a deep playoff run in a wide open Western Conference.
This should be an interesting game. Clearly the Suns will try to force the Nuggets into fast paced tempo, but they better be careful what they wish for as Denver can light up the scoreboard too. The difference may come down to Denver’s defense being able to get a few more stop than the Suns “D”. Tune in and watch as the Western conference seeding comes down to the wire.
