Celtics look to even series in Game 2
May 3, 2011
The Boston Celtics look to redeem themselves in game 2 against the Miami Heat as they try to climb out of a 1-0 hole after game 1. Miami showed that their athleticism and speed would be an important part of their game plan against Boston this series. So far it has worked to their benefit as they took game 1 by a convincing 9 point margin. LeBron James and company hope to continue their winning ways with a sweep at home and a commanding 2-0 series lead heading back to Boston.
The Celtics are a savvy enough squad to realize that losing game 1 on the road is nothing to be overly concerned about. Kevin Garnett didn’t have his best stuff in game 1 as he finished with just 6 points on 3 for 9 shooting and 8 rebounds. Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo had to work hard for every shot attempt and finished a combined 9-24 against one of the toughest defenses in the NBA.
The only player that seemed to find his groove Sunday was Ray Allen. Allen was the sole reason that the Celtics didn’t lose by 20 points. Basketball experts had set the Heat as 6 point favorites for game 1, and most novice gamblers took the bait. Now that LeBron James and Dwayne Wade have woken up the sleeping giant, we will all see if Boston has what it takes to push this Miami team to the limit in this second round match-up.
The “Heatles” have shown up big this post-season after a tremendous amount of criticism from NBA experts during the regular season. Chris Bosh, Wade and James finished with 67 of the teams 99 points. Back-up small forward James Jones had a phenomenal and unexpected game as he poured in 25 points on 5 for 7 shooting from behind the arc.
Game 2 will be a much tough challenge for Miami. They will more than likely have to work much harder for their points, and shouldn’t expect the same type of production from Jones. Garnett will be working the ball inside, and will have to step up his “D”. Tune in Tuesday as the Celtics work for win in game 2, while the Heat try to maintain home court advantage.
