Cavaliers Look to Maintain Home Court Advantage in Game 5

May 11, 2010

LeBron James had a poor performance by his standards Sunday as the Cleveland Cavaliers game away a golden opportunity to bury the Boston Celtics. Now that Rajon Rondo has taken center stage for the Celts, expect the Cavs to make some drastic changes defensively to put a stop to his dominance.

Mo Williams generally plays much better at home, and he will need to Tuesday as the Cavaliers try to maintain home court advantage and force Boston to win on their home floor in game 6 to stay alive. There is no question that LeBron James is the most dominant force in the league, and will have an outstanding game at home in front of the Cleveland fans. Antawn Jamison and Shaquille O’Neal are both veterans in this league and understand how important it is to protect your home court. Although neither one of them is anywhere close to the player they were in their prime, expect them to use their experience to help LeBron in his quest for an Eastern Conference Championship, and possibly an NBA title.

Boston’s “Big Three” have taken a backseat to a point guard that no one initially though would be able to hold his weight. Kevin Garnett hasn’t done much to protect the paint defensively, and Paul Pierce has somehow lost his shot over the last 2 weeks. Ray Allen is the only one that has shown up for them, but they will need huge games from all 3 if they are to take a much needed game in Cleveland.

This should be a defensive battle if Doc Rivers has it his way. Letting the pace get too fast would be a critical mistake due to the youth of Cleveland’s starting 5. This game should be closely contested, and may come down to a last second shot. Tune in Tuesday night as these 2 teams give true NBA fans a game worth watching!
