Boston and Cleveland Battle in Game 3
May 7, 2010
The Cleveland Cavaliers finished the season with the best record in the NBA, and are the odds on favorites to win the NBA title. However, the Boston Celtics made them look very beatable in game 2 as they took down the Cavs by a score of 104-86.
Cleveland played a poor game offensively, and will most likely bounce back on that side of the ball Friday, but it was obvious in game 2 that they do not have an answer for Rajon Rondo. Rondo had a career night assisting his team mates. His 19 assists were more than the Cavaliers had as a team. Mo Williams was clearly off of his game as Rondo ran him ragged. He made just 1 of 9 shots and finished with just 4 points. Expect to see some defensive adjustments from the Cavs as they try to get back home court advantage by stealing one in Boston.
The Celtics got help from all over in game 2. Rondo was the sparkplug, but Rasheed Wallace came off the bench and made 7 of 8 shots and finished with 17 points. The “Big 3” stepped it up in game 2 as they combined for 54 points, 21 rebounds and 7 assists. Although Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are all getting older by NBA standards, they all have plenty left in the tank to make another run at the Championship like they did in 2008.
If the Celtics are to put any doubt in Cleveland’s head, they will need to take game 3. This will not be an easy task, especially since LeBron James has now had 3 days of rest and treatment on his injured right arm. LeBron is the catalyst for this team, and if he’s not at 100 percent Friday it may take the air out of Cleveland’s balloon.
Anticipate a much slower pace as the Cavs try to get the Celtics offense out of rhythm. Tune in Friday as this series is shaping up to be a classic.
