Yankees need to improve consistency at the Plate
April 30, 2011
The New York Yankees are earning the nickname “Bronx Bombers” this season. As of Thursday the Yanks lead all of baseball with 41 home runs. They have 8 more than the second best team Texas, and have done so in 3 fewer games. Despite all of the power that New York has put on display thus far, they are still struggling to put bat on ball consistently as they are batting just .255 as a team. The Yanks are currently leading the A.L. East by a game and a half, but if they don’t start manufacturing...
Grizzlies have chance to closeout Spurs at Home
April 29, 2011
This is it! The Memphis Grizzlies have just one chance at taking down the top seeded San Antonio Spurs. This may only be game 6, but there’s no doubt that a loss on Friday would inevitably lead to a closeout win by the experienced Spurs at home in game 7. Memphis had the wind taken out of their sails in game 5 when they gave up consecutive 3 point shots to San Antonio to push the game into over-time. The boost that the Spurs received from that much needed win, and the pain that the Grizzlies have...
Portland looks to Hold Serve at home on Thursday
April 28, 2011
An 11 point win in game 5 has put the Dallas Mavericks in the driver’s seat in this first round series. Many NBA experts began to worry about the Mavs after 2 consecutive losses at the Rose Garden in games 3 and 4. Even though this is a 3/6 match-up, the Portland Trail Blazers have the type of game to give any team in this conference a run for their money. It shouldn’t be a surprise that both teams have held serve at home over the first 5 games, and it won’t be a surprise if Portland wins once...
Spurs face Elimination at home in Game 5
April 27, 2011
It’s shocking to me that more isn’t be made of the fact that the 8th seed Memphis Grizzlies are pushing the 1 seed San Antonio Spurs to the limit. At this point it looks to me like Memphis is the better team! Taking down a 1 seed is usually a big deal in the NBA, but apparently many basketball analysts and NBA experts feel that the Spurs were over-rated from the start. Manu Ginobili’s injury has very little to do with how dominating the Grizzlies defense has been over this series. Holding the...
Howard needs Help in Game 5 vs. Atlanta
April 26, 2011
The Atlanta Hawks are just 1 win away from advancing to the second round of the NBA playoffs. It may not seem like a huge upset for a 5 seed to beat a 4 seed, but the Orlando Magic are looked upon as a far superior team because of all the hype they’ve received from basketball handicappers. Having Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu make this Magic squad appear to be far more offensively dominating than they actually are. There are several players on this team that have...
Mavericks need to Bounce Back Big Monday
April 25, 2011
It took 1 quarter for the Dallas Mavericks to realize that they are in for a fight in the first round of the playoffs. Brandon Roy and the Portland Trail Blazers came back from a 23 point deficit in the 3rd quarter of game 4 to pull off a remarkable 2 point win at home . As I have said before, Dallas gets all the publicity because of their consistency in getting to the playoffs over the last few seasons. However, they have obviously drawn a tough match-up in the first round in 2011. Brandon Roy is...
Josh Johnson takes on Rockies Offense Sunday
April 24, 2011
Josh Johnson is off to a ridiculous start to the 2011 MLB season. In 4 starts thus far, Johnson has given up just 10 hits and 3 runs over 27 innings. His ERA is at 1.00 even, and more impressively his WHIP is an incredible .59. At 6’7” and 250 lbs, Johnson has the ability to completely overpower line-ups, and does so routinely. Taking on an offensively oriented Colorado Rockies team will be a challenge that Johnson more than welcomes. The Florida Marlins have been on “the fence” for several...
Nuggets hope to retake momentum in Denver
April 23, 2011
The Denver Nuggets find themselves in a 0-2 hole in the first round of the Western conference playoffs. They may be the 5 seed, and underdog to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but no one believed they would go down without a fight. Giving up over 106 points per game is not something Nuggets fans or NBA experts should be surprised by. Scoring an average of 96 points per game is what has basketball handicappers shaking their heads. After finishing the regular season with the highest scoring offense in all...
Knicks hope to Claw their way back Friday
April 22, 2011
The New York Knicks have made their presence known this post-season despite being in a 0-2 hole to the Boston Celtics. New York has made some serious strides over the last 12 months to get back to the top of the Eastern conference. Adding Amare Stoudemire to the roster was a big pick-up in the off-season, but trading for Carmelo Anthony at the deadline this year was an indication that they were serious about taking this team to a new level in the years to come. A pair of close calls to the Celtics...
Sixers hope to Up the Ante at Home
April 21, 2011
The Miami Heat have done what they were supposed to do by winning the first 2 games at home against the Philadelphia Sixers with relative ease. The tide may turn however, when LeBron James and the Heat go to Phily for game 3. NBA handicappers have the Heat as the team to beat in the Eastern conference, and thus far it looks as though they know what they’re talking about. We will all have a much better understanding of how far this team has come after Thursday’s showdown at the Wells Fargo Center. With...
