Fighting Irish Face Villanova in Big East Showdown

February 28, 2011

Both the Villanova Wildcats and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in desperate need of wins to finish the season albeit for different reasons. Nova has been on a downward swing since entering into Big East play. They started the year on a 16-1 run, but have lost 7 of their last 12, and are showing that they aren’t who the college basketball experts thought they were when they were ranked in the top 10 earl in the season. While the Wildcats are falling backwards, the Irish are on the rise as they have...

February 27, 2011

The new and improved New York Knicks will face their first true test on Sunday when they take on the Miami Heat on the road. Carmelo Anthony had an electrifying debut for the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. He poured in 27 points, 10 rebounds and added 2 blocked shots in a 114-108 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. The atmosphere at MSG was that of a playoff game as the New York fans are excited about the recent acquisitions. Chauncey Billups has been an after-thought with all the hype surrounding...

Pac-10 Title at Stake: UCLA vs. Arizona

February 26, 2011

The Arizona Wildcats suffered a loss to the USC Trojans on Thursday in what was a look-ahead situation. USC has been lost in the shuffle in the Pac-10, but are a very solid team as they proved against Arizona. Arizona needed to finish the season undefeated if they had any chance of moving up in the rankings and getting a 2 or 3 seed, but will now have to hold on to remain a top 4 seed. Finishing up the season with games against Oregon and Oregon St should have the Cats heading into the Pac-10 tournament...

East & West Collide: Orlando vs. Oklahoma City

February 25, 2011

Two of the best players in the NBA will meet on Friday as the Orlando Magic take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in a East vs West match-up that should more than live up to the hype. Both Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant are considered by most NBA experts to be the best players at their position. While Howard and Magic are off to a solid second half start, they are still currently 6 games behind the Miami Heat for the top spot in the Southeast division of the Eastern conference. Oklahoma City on the other...

Pittsburgh looks to bounce back vs. Mountaineers

February 24, 2011

The Pittsburgh Panthers are coming off of a tough loss to St John’s on Saturday that inevitably cost them a chance at being number 1 in the AP poll. Pitt didn’t know that at the time of their game that Texas and Ohio St would also lose, but as it turned out all 4 of the top ranked teams in the country lost in the same week. Getting back on track will not be easy as the Panthers host a West Virginia Mountaineers squad that is fully capable of beating them, and are in serious need of some quality...

Duke hosts 24th ranked Temple Wednesday Night

February 23, 2011

The Temple Owls looked like they had something else on their minds other than their opponent last Sunday, but they still managed to cruise to a comfortable 66-52 win at home against St Josephs. More than likely they were looking ahead to their much anticipated match-up against the number 1 team in the country. At the time of Temple’s last game, the Duke Blue Devils were ranked 5th in the country, but have since leap frogged the 4 teams in front of them as they all lost in what was a shocking week...

Lakers & Hawks look for Momentum Tuesday

February 22, 2011

The Los Angeles Lakers have some work to do if they are going to re-peat as NBA Champions for the 3rd consecutive year. They have been vulnerable for the last 2 months of the season, and are starting to be questioned by many NBA experts. Trade rumors surrounding the Lakers make it seem as though they too are not happy with the way thing are going, but their players and coaching staff believe there is nothing to worry about. Kobe Bryant finished off another tremendous All-Star weekend with his 4th...

Jayhawks fight for Number 1 against Oklahoma St

February 21, 2011

We are all waiting to see which team will be standing on top of the AP Poll on Monday after what has been a crazy week of college basketball upsets. It all started when the Kansas Jayhawks were taken down by Kansas St on Monday. Texas and Pittsburgh followed with surprise losses on Saturday, and the Ohio St Buckeyes dropped their 2nd game in the last 8 days to a tough Purdue Boilermakers squad at home. If all of those teams fall down the list, it’s very possible that the 5th ranked Duke Blue Devils...

Boilermakers look for Revenge against the Buckeyes

February 20, 2011

A loss to Wisconsin last Saturday didn’t derail the Ohio St Buckeyes nearly as much as they might have thought. Dropping from first to third in the AP poll ranking is a relatively small move considering that there are a handful of high caliber teams in the top 5. The Buckeyes still have a tough schedule ahead of them to finish out the regular season, but they have plenty of motivation. Their motivation comes from the fact that all of the teams surrounding them in the top-25 are falling off. Kansas...

Nebraska looks to Knock Off Texas Saturday

February 19, 2011

As we close in on the end of the college basketball regular season, it extremely important for the top seeds to maintain their standing as a late unexpected loss has the potential to leave a bad taste in the selection committee’s mouth. The Texas Longhorns are all but secured of attaining the number 1 position in the AP polls provided they can take care of business against a very good Nebraska Cornhuskers squad on the road. With Kansas losing earlier this week to their in-state rivals, the top...
