Top 25 Chick-fil-A Bowl: Seminoles & Gamecocks

December 31, 2010

The Florida St Seminoles take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Friday night. Both of these have top 25 rankings and finished the regular season with 9-4 records, but as a whole neither squad is content with the way the year ended. FSU had the opportunity to finish with double-digit wins and an ACC Championship, but they forgot to bring their defense against a Virginia Tech team that finished the season on a tear. A 44-33 loss to the Hokies took the Seminoles from a potential...

Nebraska & Washington meet again in Holiday Bowl

December 30, 2010

The Pac-10 hasn’t received the respect they deserve in terms of strength as a conference. Every year they pump out 2-4 top 25 teams, and still are considered the 3rd or 4th best conference in the country. Teams like Arizona , Arizona St and Oregon St are prime examples of how solid this conference is when they take on big conference schools like Iowa, Wisconsin and TCU and either win or give them a much tougher battle than football experts expected. The Washington Huskies fall right into this category...

Oklahoma St meets Arizona in Alamo Bowl Showdown

December 29, 2010

The Arizona Wildcats may have finished in the middle of the pack in the PAC-10 this season with a 7-5 overall record, but they have more than enough weapons to take down the 14th ranked team in the country in the Alamo Bowl Wednesday night. The Oklahoma St Cowboys have a tremendous offensive attack, but seldom faces a defense that can be considered elite in the Big-12 conference. Outside of Oklahoma, there are not too many teams that focus on the defensive side of the ball the way that the Wildcats...

Philadelphia Host Minnesota on Tuesday Night

December 28, 2010

The Philadelphia Eagles will be hosting the first Tuesday night NFL football game in quite a while. Horrific snow storms throughout the north east postponed what was supposed to be the Sunday Night game of the week for the Eagles as they host the Minnesota Vikings. Many are calling the decision to postpone the game a “wimpish” move by the league. In reality, the change of date was more for the 70+ thousand fans that had tickets to the game. Minnesota has been out of the playoff chase for close...

Atlanta hosts New Orleans in NFC South Showdown

December 27, 2010

The Atlanta Falcons may have the best record in the NFC and playing at home, but this situation will be extremely tough for them as they take on a New Orleans Saints squad that hold their playoff hopes in their own hands with a win Monday night. The Saints currently sit 1.5 games ahead of the Giants and Packers for the top wildcard seed, but do not want to take any chances heading into the final week. Drew Brees and the Saints have somewhat quietly got to 10 wins with 2 games left. It’s very surprising...

Jets & Bears look to improve Playoff Position

December 26, 2010

Jay Cutler has turned things around after a forgetful first year in Chicago. He is learning to be more efficient with his passes, and utilize the talents of Matt Forte. It’s not as though Forte is having an outstanding season, but when you keep the ball on the ground you tend to shorten games and make less mistakes. This is all the Bears defense needs to keep them in ball games. Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs are 2 of the best linebackers in the league and anchor this Chicago “D”. The strength...

Cowboys & Cardinals Battle on Christmas Day

December 25, 2010

Both the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals are well out of the playoff race, but they still have a lot to play for. This has been an incredibly disappointing season for the Cowboys. They were actually the odds on favorites by most sportsbooks to win the Super Bowl heading into the season, but fell flat on their faces with a 1-7 start. Everything that could go wrong did for Dallas. Tony Romo’s injury in week 7 against the New York Giants was just icing on what has been a tasteless cake. Dallas...

Rainbows host Golden Hurricanes in Offensive Showcase

December 24, 2010

The Hawaii Rainbows have come full circle since the departure of June Jones. After falling off of the map during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, the Rainbows have returned with the high-powered offense that they are accustomed to having. They will take on another dynamic offense on Friday as they face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane In the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. Tulsa finished the year ranked 10th in the country in points per game, but 84th in points allowed. If this team could play defense at even a mediocre...

Pittsburgh Host Carolina as Huge Favorites

December 23, 2010

The NFL Thursday Night football match-up looks like it will be a sleeper, but not if the Carolina Panthers can help it. Carolina takes their 2-12 record on the road as they take on the AFC North leading Pittsburgh Steelers in what should be tough conditions. It seems like every week has brought, “tough conditions” for this struggling Panthers team this year. They haven’t been able to do much of anything offensively, and rank absolutely dead last in total offense. Their 266 yards per game is...

MAACO Bowl: Boise St vs. Utah

December 22, 2010

After starting the season 10-0, the Boise St Broncos lost a heart-breaking game to the Nevada Wolfpack in which their kicker missed 2 critical field goals. That loss not only cost them a chance at the National Championship game, but took them completely out of the BCS Bowl series. They went from playing a post-New Year’s reputable bowl game to playing on the 22nd of December in the MAACO Bowl. The significant fall in ranking is mostly due to the lack of respect that they are given in the eyes of...
