Stanford’s Gerhart Leaves for the NFL

January 17, 2010

After finishing 2nd behind Mark Ingram for the 2009 Heisman trophy, Stanford running back Toby Gerhart has decided to enter the NFL draft. Gerhart led the Pac-10 in rushing and set a Stanford school record in the process. His 1871 yards on the ground earned him the Doak Walker Award which is given to the nation’s top college running back. The Stanford Cardinal are going to miss his production on the field as he amassed 28 touchdown in 2009 (led the nation). If NFL scouts have any doubts about his...

AFC Divisional Playoff Preview: New York Jets v. San Diego Chargers

January 15, 2010

It’s not surprise to see the San Diego Chargers on a roll heading into the playoffs. The Chargers had won 10 in a row before the 2006 playoffs, and 8 consecutive the following year. Both of those previous winning streaks ended in a playoff loss to the New England Patriots. The difference this time around, is that they are not facing the Pats, and Marty Shottenheimer is not their coach. However, to get to the Super Bowl this season will start by facing a New York Jets team in the AFC Divisional...

NFC Divisional Playoffs: Dallas Cowboys v. Minnesota Vikings

January 14, 2010

Jerry Jones must be smiling ear to ear as his Dallas Cowboys final got through their December slump, and won their first playoff game since the Emmitt Smith days. Now that Dallas has taken the proverbial monkey off their back, they will need to take down the Minnesota Vikings on the road in the NFC Divisional round of the playoffs. The Minnesota Vikings looked like the best team in the NFL for most of the season. Adding Brett Favre to an equation that already had a solid defense and the best running...

NFL Divisional Round Preview: Indianapolis vs. Baltimore

January 13, 2010

If the Indianapolis Colts are to justify their decision to rest players in a loss to the New York Jets in week 16, they will have to get to the Super Bowl. Their division round match-up against a rejuvenated Baltimore Ravens squad will be a big enough test in itself. Joe Flacco and the Ravens offense have been ridiculed all season because of their lack of diversity. For much of the year, they have relied on Ray Rice’s running ability. While he is a instrumental part of their offensive attack, many...

Monday Night NCAA Basketball- Louisville vs. Villanova

January 12, 2010

The 12-4 Louisville Cardinals take on the 4th ranked Villanova Wildcats Monday night in what promises to be another Big-East battle. The Cardinals have rebounded nicely after back to back losses to un-ranked teams earlier this season. Villanova will be the first true test for this young Louisville squad as they try to build some confidence heading into what is sure to be a difficult conference schedule. The Wildcats have just 1 blemish on their record. A 10 point loss at Temple is nothing to be ashamed...

NFL Divisional Playoffs Preview: New Orleans vs. Arizona

January 12, 2010

The Arizona Cardinals escaped Sunday night with a 51-45 win over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The fact that Zona allowed 45 points at home doesn’t bode well for them as they square off against perhaps the most dynamic offense in the NFL this year. New Orleans is well rested and eager to get these playoffs under-way. After a 13-0 start to their season, the Saints lost to a red-hot Dallas team that may have showed other teams how to slow down their high powered attack. Constant blitzes...

Cincinnati vs. New York Jets: NFL Playoff Preview

January 9, 2010

First round match-ups against wild-card teams are never easy, especially when that team has beaten you soundly the previous week. The Cincinnati Bengals are facing that situation Saturday afternoon as they face a rejuvenated New York Jets squad that has nothing to lose. After starting the season 3-0 with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez at the helm, the Jets proceeded to lose 6 of their next 7 games. Some fault Sanchez for making bad decisions, but that’s all par for the course with most first year...

GMAC Bowl Preview: C. Michigan vs. Troy

January 6, 2010

The GMAC Bowl may not be high up on everyone’s list of bowl games to watch, but it may very well be one of the best games this post-season. The Central Michigan Chippewas face the Troy Trojans in a battle of non-BCS conference champions. C. Michigan has been at the top of the Mid-American Conference for several years now with their dynamic offense. Star quarterback Dan LeFevour has led this team once again to double-digit wins and a bowl game. He may be the least known superstar in college football....

Fed Ex Orange Bowl Preview: Iowa vs. Georgia Tech

January 5, 2010

The Fed Ex Orange Bowl will be played Tuesday night on FOX. This match-up is intriguing as both teams have different philosophies on winning. Georgia Tech runs a spread option attack that has baffled opposing defenses all season, while the Iowa Hawkeyes have played stout defense to get to their 10-2 record. The Iowa Hawkeyes started the season 9-0 and ranked in the top-10 in the country. A convincing win over then 5th ranked Penn St in week 5 made it seem as though this was the year that the Hawkeyes...

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Preview: Boise St vs. TCU

January 4, 2010

Perhaps the most anticipated game of the bowl season features two of the most explosive offenses in all of college football. The 6th ranked Boise St. Broncos take on the 4th ranked TCU Horned Frogs Monday night in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona. Outside of the BCS National Championship between Texas and Alabama, no game has been more hyped. Both of these undefeated teams come from non-BCS conferences, and would like to have proven themselves in the big game. However, this game should...
